Lions Report: Sigh. That was a disappointing loss on a few different levels. I’m deflated. We started off on a high with the news that Frank Ragnow is coming back. That was a welcome surprise. I knew the game against the Packers was not going to be easy, and it wasn’t. It was the way we lost that took the wind out of my sails. I’m not going to write a long report today. You all saw the game. There are two areas that are costing us games in the last few weeks.
Lions Defensive Line - One sack in the last two games. Yesterday, Jordan Love got hit twice and wasn’t sacked at all. He was eating a sandwich in the backfield and looking for receivers all day. I don’t get it. We’ve got Alim McNeil and DJ Reader back. I know they’re coming off injuries but there was zero pressure on Love all game. None. Maybe our defensive line isn’t that good? Have offenses figured out Kelvin Shepherd’s schemes?
Riverboat Dan Campbell - I’m tired of beating this drum but it’s still here. He attempted two fourth down conversions in the game and I hated both of them. The first was early in the 3rd quarter near midfield and the Lions were only down by three points. They don’t make it. Green Bay gets a touchdown two plays later. The second was with about 11 minutes in the fourth quarter and the Lions down by 10. We need a touchdown and field goal to tie the game. We’re at the Green Bay 21. Kick the damn field goal. We can’t walk away with nothing. However, he goes for it and Goff and Jameson Williams misfire on a crossing route. I don’t care that he probably should have caught the ball. It was a dumb decision. I’m fatigued by them now. The Lions offense is not as good as it used to be and Campbell is taking unnecessary risks that’s hurting his team.
Injuries aren’t helping of course but almost every team has injuries right now. Losing Amon-Ra St. Brown early in the game takes away both of Goff’s security blankets with Sam LaPorta being out as well.
We’ve got Dallas at home next Thursday night and then travel to the Rams the following week. I’m going to both games. I hope it doesn’t get ugly.
