Lions Report: Thud. That was worse than I thought it was going to be. That’s a bad way to start the season. Did I expect the Packers to win the game? Yes. Did I expect the offense to struggle with a new offensive coordinator and two young linemen? Yes. Was I concerned that the defense is still thin, even with everyone healthy? Yes.

But c’mon. That was a bad loss.

First, let’s cover the good (or not bad, in this case) parts. After getting zero pressure on Jordan Love in the first half, Kelvin Shepherd settled in and had a decent second half. The Lions defense forced punts on the first two offensive series in the second half. They limited Green Bay to 27 points in total. While not great, it wasn’t terrible. I am concerned about the lack of pressure in the first half. I hope that’s a trend that doesn’t continue.

The other good part. Isaac TeSlaa’s junk touchdown catch in the final minute of the game. That’s it.

Fine. I know it’s the first game of the season. It was also an away division game against a formidable opponent.

However, we only had 6 points until TeSlaa’s touchdown.

Jared Goff threw a killer red zone interception on a drive near the end of the first half.

We averaged 2.1 yards a carry.

Goff got sacked 4 times, with Christian Mahogany getting bull rushed at least a couple of times that impacted plays.

We only had one play longer than 20 yards, which was a 32-yard pass to Sam LaPorta.

I’m not hitting the panic button yet. However, John Morton, you are now officially under the microscope. Taking over one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL and not scoring a touchdown until the end of the game will do that to you.

To quote Mike Wojcik, my tummy hurts
