Lions Report: Well, the Lions hammered the Washington Commanders today. It’s a game they should have won, needed to win, and did win. It was a snoozer, but that’s OK. Snoozers are all right if you win them. We didn’t learn a lot today, but we did learn a few things. Let’s list out a few of them:
There’s been a change as to who is calling the plays for the Lions offense: Either Dan Campbell has taken over the play calling duties from John Morton, or he’s keeping Morton on a short leash. Whatever the change, the Lions offense did look sharper and a bit more creative. I take the results with a grain of salt. It’s easy to look good against a Commanders team with a crappy defense and a banged-up offense.
Dan Quinn looks like a douche with his backwards baseball hat: Someone get him on the horn with him and tell him he’s a grown ass man. He’s not a 21-year old frat boy. Turn the hat around, Dan, and try to look like an adult.
There’s still issues with the Lions special teams performance: They gave up a 46-yard kickoff return and also had an extra point blocked. That unit is shaky at best. I’m worried Jake Bates is going to blow his shoulder out making a tackle.
The NFC is up for grabs: At the time I’m writing this, there’s no team with more than 6 wins. Philly and Green Bay play tomorrow night, but only one of them will have more than 6 wins after that game. No one is running away with it. At least, not yet.
News flash, Jahmyr Gibbs is really fast: And really good.
News flash, so is Jameson Williams.
Dan Campbell is a pretty good coach: I had my doubts about him after the first season, but I was wrong. He’s weathered the loss of his highly respected offensive and defensive coordinators. There’s been some drop off on offense, but I like that he took ownership of it this game. The results were clearly an improvement. Also, penalties were an issue last week against the Vikings. This week, the Lions had 3 penalties for a total of 1 yard. Plus, they had no turnovers. Campbell's teams rarely, if ever, have two poor games in a row.
Like I said, we didn’t learn much this week. We will next week. Sunday night prime time game against the Eagles. We will know more after that game.
